SAPIENS Network is committed to ensuring the quality of the supervision offered to its ESRs (PhDs). The quality of supervision will be monitored beyond the network by the inclusion of two non-ITN (external) scientist-experts of high standing and experience, particularly qualified to advise on the development of the programme.

We are happy to announce SAPIENS Network external experts who are among the leading world-renowned sustainability experts:

Elisabetta Manunza (Italy) is professor of International and European Public Procurement Law at the University of Utrecht.

She is the founder, member and co-director of the Utrecht University Centre for Public Procurement (UUCPP).

She focuses in her research on how to improve (i) the innovation, utilization, regulation, promotion, and (ii) the social and sustainable use of public procurement by making objective, efficient, just, and lawful choices. Her research involves constant engagement with the private and public sectors and generates many commissioned interdisciplinary studies. She is a frequent and much-invited speaker for debates and conferences by public and private organisations in the Netherlands and abroad.

Elisabetta is core-team member of the Utrecht University Social Entrepreneurship Initiative that aimes at developing and disseminating new knowledge jointly with other key actors involved in ecosystems for social entrepreneurship. It is powered by the research expertise that resides in Utrecht University’s strategic theme Institutions for Open Societies.

Stefan Seuring is a professor of supply chain management at the University of Kassel.

He is one of the globally leading scholars on sustainable supply chain management, but also covers topics on supply chain strategy and digitisation.

In 2016, Stefan was listed among the 27 globally most influential researchers in logistics and supply chain management by a panel of French researchers. The Web of Science and Clarivate Analytics listed him as a highly cited researcher on multiple occasions: in 2018 for Cross-field, and 2019 and 2020 for Economics and Business.

Stefan was and is involved into inter- and transdisciplinary research on sustainable supply chains, linking e.g. into decent work or biodiversity.

These experts will give their contribution in the SAPIENS quality monitoring by reading the ESR reports and participating in the annual SAPIENS review meetings. We are very happy to that our experts accepted the invitation, and we would like to warmly welcome Elisabetta and Stefan to the SAPIENS Network!
